Abstract

During this Agile Richmond user group Meetup, Michael Vizdos and Jim York facilitate an interactive discussion “Scrum Guide, 20 tips in 20 minutes.” These are current tips and ideas gleamed from the 2020 Scrum Guide, by Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland.

The 20 Tips in 20 Minutes

  1. Reinforce the Scrum Values

  2. Get everyone on the same team

  3. Remove hierarchies and sub teams

  4. Scale only when necessary and only at the team’s discretion

  5. Establish a single Product Owner and a single Product Backlog

  6. Hold the Scrum Team accountable

  7. Shift to accountable team members from roles

  8. Create something valuable for the customer (end user) every Sprint

  9. Self-manage and give the Scrum Team the support they need to be successful

  10. Empower your  Product Owner as the ultimate decision authority for all business decisions related to the product

  11. Expect more from your Scrum Master

  12. Start every Sprint Planning with an empty Sprint Backlog

  13. Produce a plan during your Daily Scrum

  14. Invoke double loop learning in your Sprint Review

  15. Act on the most helpful improvement opportunities

  16. Get Product Backlog items “ready” for Sprint Planning (Product Backlog Refinement)

  17. Focus on just one long term objective at a time (Product Goal)

  18. Build at least one usable increment every Sprint
